When War goes Digital...

Much as been said of the risks to critical infrastructure (including electrical grids, energy infrastructure, water systems, financial and transportation networks) from directed cyber attacks. There are enough historical examples of successful attacks to move these threats from "hypothetical" to "probable certainty". The recent ransomware attack on the Colonial Pipeline is only the most recent demonstration of the broad and disruptive consequences of taking down these elements of infrastructure upon which our economy and daily lives are dependent. With the stalled Russian attack on Ukraine, speculation is once again peaking that we may be on the threshold of a major escalation in cyber attacks and a potential cyber war as Russia seeks to disrupt the status quo…

Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said that enemies of the U.S. had the capability to shut down the nation’s power grid, and added that “there are very malign actors trying, even as we speak.”
